Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: 5 players who are part of both India A and senior men's squad
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be preceded by two first-class games between India A and Australia A.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squads for the all-important tour of Australia. The BCCI has announced the senior men’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and the India A squad for two first-class games against Australia A.
The five-match test series is scheduled to start on November 22 in Perth. Before that, the India A side, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will take on Australia A in two First Class games, followed by a warm-up match against the senior team.
Interestingly, there is an overlap of a few players in both these squads. There are five players who have earned their spots in both squads. Here, we look at the Indian players who are part of both India A and the senior men’s squad for the crucial tour.
Five Indian players who are part of both India A and senior men’s squad for Australia tour:
1. Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar has been named in the India A squad to face Australia A, while he has been picked as a travelling reserve with the senior men’s squad.
Mukesh made his test debut last year against West Indies. Mukesh is hailed for his strong discipline with line and length. He has played three tests so far with no standout performance. He would provide back-up for the Indian fast-bowling cartel.
2. Khaleel Ahmed
In addition to his role in the India A squad against Australia A, Khaleel Ahmed will travel with the senior squad as a reserve. Khaleel is yet to play a test match for India.
Khaleel was impressive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, showcasing his command with the new ball. Khaleel’s ability to swing the ball both ways can add be used if any fast bowler sustains an injury during the long tour.
3. Navdeep Saini
Named in the India A squad to play Australia A, Navdeep Saini will additionally serve as a travelling reserve for the senior team. Saini played the historic test match in Gabba in 2021, but has since not featured in the whites for India.
Saini’s prior experience of playing in Australia along with his extra pace and bounce will be highly useful for India on the tour.
4. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Reddy is a part of both India A and senior men’s team squad for the tour of Australia. Being a fast-bowling all-rounder, Nitish is an asset to the side.
Reddy was impressive in the recently concluded T20I series against Bangladesh where he played a decisive role in the second game. He played a blistering knock of 74 and took two wickets with the ball.
5. Abhimanyu Easwaran
Abhimanyu Easwaran has earned a spot in both the India A and the senior men’s squad for the Australia tour. Easwaran has proven his grit in the domestic circuit, amassing over 7,500 First Class (FC) runs at an impressive average of 49.92.
With Rohit Sharma reportedly set to miss the first test due to personal reasons, Easwaran might get a chance to make his test debut in Perth.
