Australia all-rounder Cameron Green ruled out for 8-days due to concussion protocol

Cameron Green suffered a concussion during the first ODI against South Africa.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green had to leave the Australian chase only after facing two balls on Thursday evening in Bloemfontein as he was struck by one of Kagiso Rabada’s bouncers. Green was substituted by middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne. Now in the latest development, Cameron Green is set to miss the upcoming games in the series. Australia is currently playing a 5-match ODI series against South Africa as a preparatory tour for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Cameron Green out for 8 days
Cricket Australia spokesperson has informed the press that Cameron Green will be missing sizable games in the tour as he has been advised to undergo an 8-day concussion protocol. Green will be monitored by Cricket Australia’s medical team, in that period and will be back on 17th September, Australia and South Africa will be playing the final ODI at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 17th September. Australia are already reeling with multiple injury concerns before the start of their World Cup campaign against India on 8th October.
Marnus Labuschagne was brought in as a concussion substitute for Cameron Green and he played a match-winning knock along with number 9 Ashton Agar. Labuschagne played a valiant knock of 80 runs in 93 balls to give Australia a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series. Cameron Green did had a bowl against South Africa in the first ODI and picked up a crucial wicket of Aiden Markram in his 5 overs spell. Green conceded 32 runs in the innings. Green’s absence will give Labuschagne a chance to put forward his case in the ODI squad.
Cameron Green’s injury has increased the tensions among the Cricket Australia camp with the World Cup just a month away from now. Apart from all-rounder Green, captain Pat Cummins is currently recovering from a wrist injury, Glenn Maxwell is recovering from an ankle injury, Pace bowler Mitchell Starc is recovering from a groin injury, and Steve Smith is also recovering from a wrist injury. All these players have been chosen for Australia's World Cup squad travelling to India.
