Can Manav Suthar replace Ravindra Jadeja in Indian Test team in future?

Manav Suthar won the Player of the Match award in his debut Test against Afghanistan.
Indian Cricket Team all-rounder Manav Suthar made his international debut in the recent Test match against Afghanistan. He grabbed the spotlight with his spectacular performance in the one-off Test, winning the Player of the Match Award.
India won the match like a walk in the park by an innings and 300 runs. It was India’s biggest-ever victory in Test cricket by the margin of runs. Opting to bat first, Shubman Gill & Co. piled up 564/8 in the first innings with centuries by KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.
While Suthar could only score 28 runs in the first innings, he rocked the field with his bowling. Bagging a 6-wicket haul, he helped India dismiss Afghanistan for just 152 runs in the first innings. With Suthar’s heroics, India enforced a follow-on on the visitors and later bowled them out for 112 runs, scripting history in Test cricket.
The 23-year-old took 7 wickets in the match, including 1 in the second innings. Notably, Test specialist all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was absent from the IND vs AFG one-off Test match, and Suthar filled his vacant spot in the playing XI.
Since Axar Patel was also absent from the squad, Manav got a chance to make his Test debut. After his brilliant performance, many fans view him as Jadeja’s future successor.
Can Manav Suthar replace Ravindra Jadeja in Test Cricket?

Although Manav Suthar has made a marvellous Test debut, he will find it challenging to replace Jadeja in the near future. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja are three key spin all-rounders for India at the moment in the longest format.
In the future, Patel will compete for Jadeja’s spot in India’s Test team, as he, too, is a left-arm spin all-rounder. Hence, Suthar will have to compete with him.
However, if he continues to impress with his brilliant show in the upcoming campaigns, he can cement his place in the Test team.
Moreover, Harsh Dubey is another option as a left-arm spin all-rounder for India in Test cricket. He was also part of India’s squad in the recent one-off test against Afghanistan, but wasn’t picked in the playing XI. In the future, he could also give Suthar stiff competition for Jadeja’s spot in the Indian Test team.
One thing is for sure, Manav will have to come up with a better show than Axar and Harsh in future to replace Jadeja in the Test team.
