No franchise bid on Mustafizur Rahman at his base price of INR 2 crores.

Despite being one of the finest death-overs pacers in the world and having a good Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The IPL 2025 mega auction spanned across two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during which a total of 182 players were sold, out of them 62 were overseas.

29-year-old Mustafizur, though, couldn’t find a bidder at his base price of INR 2 crores.

Mustafizur’s name came up once in the regular bowler’s set. He didn’t come up in the accelerated auction as none of the team asked for him.

He was with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. The left-arm seamer, who is known for his cutters, played nine matches last season for CSK and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 22. His economy of 9.26 may seem high but it was for the high-scoring IPL 2024 season.

Having made his debut in 2016 in the IPL, Rahman has featured for five IPL teams. His best IPL season was his debut season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, when he helped them win the IPL 2016 title and was named the Emerging Player of the Season. Mustafizur is the only overseas player to win this award.

While Rahman remains a key cog in Bangladesh’s bowling attack in T20s, he wasn’t shown any interested in the mega auction room. However, Rahman could still feature in the IPL 2025.

How can Mustafizur Rahman still play in IPL 2025 after going unsold at mega auction?

Though Mustafizur Rahman was unsold in the mega auction, the Bangladesh pacer could play in IPL 2025 if any team ropes him in as a replacement player for an injured player or if someone pulls out for any reason before or during the season.

According to the IPL rules, teams can replace injured players in the squad from the pool of players who registered themselves at the auction and remained unsold.
