Babar Azam-led Pakistan team lost against India by six runs in New York.
After suffering a huge upset at the hands of the USA by losing in the Super Over, Pakistan suffered another abject failure at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to chase down target of 120 against India in their second group fixture.
Babar Azam’s side managed 113 runs when chasing 120 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Jasprit Bumrah, who was the Man of the Match against Babar’s team in their World Cup 2023 encounter in Ahmedabad, was named the Man of the Match in New York as well, for his bowling figures of 3/14.
This second loss in two games has now put Pakistan in a situation where going into the Super 8 round is not completely in their own hands. Their fate has been snatched away from them and they will need some other results to go their way.
Talking about Group A, India and the USA have two victories each in two games each and they are yet to face each other. So one of them will finish with at least three wins and proceed to the Super 8 round. Canada have won one match and lost one game, while both Pakistan and Ireland are yet to open their account.
Pakistan’s remaining two games in Group A are against Canada and Ireland.
Can Pakistan still qualify for Super 8 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after losing to India?
Yes, Pakistan are still alive in the race to the Super 8. They need to win both their remaining matches and hope that one of India or USA don’t reach six points. Plus, they need to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR) if it comes down to two teams having the same number of points.
