The PSL 2025 will be pushed back due to the Champions Trophy 2025, of which Pakistan are the host nation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been given a significant cause of worry as next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This is due to the home tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa and the following Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan are the designated host of the Champions Trophy 2025. Whether the tournament will be played in its entirety in Pakistan is not certain yet, since India are unlikely to travel there.
In the past few years, the ICC events have taken place after the month of May as the IPL ends in the last week of May, while the PSL has been played in February-March.
But next year is different. The draft schedule of the Champions Trophy 2025 has the tournament run from February 19 to March 9. It will follow a tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand, which will be played from February 8 to 14.
PSL 2025 to directly overlap the IPL; PCB and broadcasters to take a hit
According to a report in PTI, the PSL 2025 might be played from April 10 to May 25, which means it would be played entirely in the window of the IPL 2025.
This would leave the broadcasters unhappy as they would lose a significant chunk of the audience worldwide. Not to forget, the overseas players who would be picked in both leagues are likely to choose to participate in the IPL over PSL.
The tournament will be played across four cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.
