Towhid Hridoy is the fifth Bangladeshi player to hit a century in ICC Champions Trophy.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 228 runs in their first game at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against India in Dubai on Thursday.

Their total was largely thanks to the sixth-wicket partnership of 154 (206) between Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy.

Bangladesh’s innings was a tale of three parts. After electing to bat first, they lost their first five wickets for only 35 runs and were completely dominated by the Indian bowlers in the first powerplay.

Jaker and Hridoy then batted sensibly and cautiously to not lose their wickets for the entirety of the middle-overs. India kept things tight for most of the middle-overs even though they couldn’t break the partnership.

Bangladesh didn’t get the finish they needed as they lost the remaining five wickets in the death overs phase, from overs 40 to 50.

Jaker scored 68 runs off 114 balls, while Hridoy had a much better strike rate and managed to complete his century, scoring 100 runs off 118 balls with six fours and two sixes.

Hridoy became only the fifth Bangladeshi player to record a century in ICC Champions Trophy. He is the ninth player to score a hundred on his Champions Trophy debut innings and the second Bangladeshi after Tamim Iqbal, who scored a century against England in the 2017 edition.

The conditions weren’t difficult to bat and Bangladesh would rue a good opportunity missed by their top-order. They have Hridoy and Jaker to thank for keeping them alive in the contest.

Netizens lavished praise on Towhid Hridoy for his fighting century:
