KL Rahul will captain India in the ODI series against South Africa.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Indian Cricket Team’s squad for the ODI series against South Africa Cricket Team on Sunday, November 23. The governing body has named a 15-member squad for the series, which will see three matches from November 30.
ODI captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer have been ruled out of the series due to their respective injuries. While Gill is recovering from a neck injury he sustained during the first test against South Africa, Iyer is recovering from rib injury, which he suffered while fielding in the third ODI against Australia last month.
With both being ruled out of the series, KL Rahul has been named as the captain for the series. Moreover, the BCCI has made four changes from the lineup which played the last ODI series in Australia.
While Gill and Iyer were ruled out due to injuries, all-rounder Axar Patel and pacer Mohammed Siraj were excluded from the squad. However, it is unclear whether they have been dropped or rested for the series. The selectors drafted in top-order batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, who will replace Gill and Iyer in the squad. In place of Axar and Siraj, they drafted in Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
