UP Warriorz have lost three consecutive matches in WPL 2026.
The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League, WPL 2026, is entertaining Indian cricket fans with thrilling games.
The league began on January 9 in Navi Mumbai, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) Women in the first match at the DY Patil Sports Stadium.
The clash witnessed a nail-biting final over, where RCB batter Nadine de Klerk slammed two sixes and two fours to smash 18 runs needed for victory. Harmanpreet Kaur and co., who dominated last season, failed to start the tournament with a win.
However, they are not the only ones who could not make a mark at the start. Currently, UP Warriorz are in a worse situation. Warriorz have appointed Meg Lanning as the new captain for WPL 2026. They have witnessed a dismal show under her captaincy, losing three matches in a row.
They faced a defeat against Gujarat Giants in their opening game, followed by defeats against RCB Women and Delhi Capitals (DC) Women in the next two matches.
With three losses, they are at the bottom of the WPL 2026 points table and desperately need a win in their upcoming match, as another defeat would put them in a difficult position.
UP Warriorz will face a major challenge in their next match against MI Women, as MI have won their last two games in a dominating way. Warriorz urgently needs to make some tough decisions in their strategies. Below are the three changes they need to make to win their first match of WPL 2026.
3. Good teamwork in bowling
UP will need to show better teamwork in their bowling department. The bowlers have failed to support each other, with only one or two getting success in a particular match.
For instance, Shikhar Pandey was the only bowler to get a wicket in the clash against RCB. In the previous game against DC Women, Asha Shobhna and Deepti Sharma managed to get wickets while four other bowlers remained wicketless.
2. Fearless batting in powerplay
Warriorz have struggled to score at a high run rate at the start, which has restrained them from reaching big totals. They remained short of a few runs for victory in the first game while chasing, and could not cross the 160-run mark in the next two clashes while batting first.
Top order batters like Meg Lanning, Harleen Deol, Phoebe Litchfield, and Kiran Navgire need to score at a high strike rate in the powerplay overs, which will definitely solve Warriorz’ batting woes in the upcoming games.
1. Powerful partner for opener Meg Lanning
Opener Meg Lanning has executed an impressive performance at the start, scoring 30,14, and 54. The Australian batter has left no stone unturned to pile up crucial runs for the side. However, she has not got good support.
Her opening partner, Kiran Navgire, got out for single digits in every game, while Harleen Deol also failed to provide good support as an opener in one match. Hence, Warriorz needs to shuffle more batters in the top order to strengthen their opening slot.
