Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Their tally of five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023) is matched only by Mumbai Indians, who have won the competition in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

The franchise was suspended for two seasons in 2016 and 2017, but made a strong comeback by clinching the title in 2018. The IPL has evolved, and so have CSK. Once reliant on their excellent spin attack, the franchise has now adapted to an ultra-attacking batting approach to post-mammoth totals.

5. 223/3 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2013, Hyderabad

Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina were at their best in 2013 during the 54th match of the IPL season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.

Batting first, the Yellow team saw the duo add 133 runs for the second wicket. Both Hussey (67) and Raina (99*) scored half-centuries, propelling the team to a mammoth total of 223/3.

Thanks to a solid bowling display in the second innings, they won the game by 77 runs.

4. 226/6 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 2023, Bengaluru

CSK’s arch-rivals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, faced a thrashing from the CSK batters as the visitors posted a massive total of 226/6 in Bengaluru in 2023.

Batting first, the top-order duo of Devon Conway (83) and Ajinkya Rahane (37) set the platform for a big total with a 74-run opening partnership. Shivam Dube then played a quickfire knock of 52 off 27 balls, taking the team to a mammoth total of 226 runs.

CSK ultimately clinched the game with an eight-run win, and Devon Conway was named Player of the Match.

3. 235/4 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2023, Eden Gardens

One of CSK’s most remarkable batting performances came at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata against Kolkata Knight Riders in April 2023.

Ajinkya Rahane led the CSK batting lineup to 235/4 with his 71-run knock. He was well supported by Devon Conway and Shivam Dube, who contributed 56 and 50 respectively.

Their strong batting performance helped them register a comfortable 49-run win.

2. 240/5 vs Punjab Kings, 2008, Mohali

CSK started their IPL 2008 campaign in an explosive fashion, scoring 240/5 in their opening match against Punjab Kings in Mohali.

Electing to bat first, the visitors were led by Michael Hussey, who top-scored with 116 off 54 balls. The CSK middle-order duo of Suresh Raina (32) and S. Badrinath (31) provided the finishing touch, propelling them to 240/5.

CSK ultimately won the game by 33 runs.

1. 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals, 2010, Chennai

CSK’s best batting display came during IPL 2010 in Chennai against Rajasthan Royals in the 32nd game of the season.

Batting first, CSK got off to a flying start with a 62-run opening partnership between Murali Vijay (127*) and Matthew Hayden (34).

The openers were well supported by Albie Morkel, who scored 62 off 34 balls. Their contributions took CSK to a massive 246/5. They ultimately won the game by 23 runs.
