After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, there were rumours that Cheteshwar Pujara might make a comeback in tests.
Veteran Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has made a massive revelation on whether he got a call from Gautam Gambhir for the test series against England. He also mentioned that he would be more than happy to contribute if he gets a chance to represent the team in the longest format of the game.
The Indian Cricket Team is all set to face the England Cricket Team in the five-match test series. The series between the two teams will begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. This series will also mark the start of the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship cycle 2025-27.
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the tests, some rumours claimed that Cheteshwar Pujara was in contention to be back in the side. However, that wasn’t the case, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn’t look back and named a young team, which will be captained by Shubman Gill.
No, not yet – Cheteshwar Pujara on if he got a call from Gautam Gambhir
Addressing all the rumours, Cheteshwar Pujara was asked, “Have you received a phone call from Gambhir yet?” Responding to this, the Indian cricketer confirmed that he did not receive any call. He said, “No, not yet,” Pujara told Lallantop when he was asked.
Cheteshwar Pujara also said that he is ready to play for India again if he gets a chance. He said he hoped to get the chance again and that he would be happy to be a part of the team..
“I am ready. I don’t know if they will take me or not. But if I get a chance, yes, it will be an honour to represent the country again. As a cricketer, you always feel that as long as you are fit, as long as you are contributing, and if I have a good performance in domestic cricket, and I am preparing well, if I get a chance, yes, I will be more than happy to be part of the team,” he said.
Cheteshwar Pujara last played for India in tests during the ICC World Test Championship final 2023. After that, the team moved on from him, and Shubman Gill was given the responsibility to bat at three.
