Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri compared Virat Kohli to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri has compared Virat Kohli to Cristiano Ronaldo and revealed a common thing between both of them. Chhetri also revealed that Kohli shared scores of his fitness tests with him recently and he was impressed with it.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently conducted fitness tests of many Indian players at the Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. However, Kohli’s fitness test was conducted in London, where he currently lives.

The right-handed batsman announced his retirement from test cricket in May. He will be next seen in the ODI series against Australia in October. Kohli last played competitive cricket during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the title.

During a conversation on DesiPL podcast, Chhetri said that he was impressed with Kohli’s scores of fitness tests.

“A few days back, he (Kohli) was sending me his scores of one of the tests he was doing. It is so addictive, and it is so good to know these kinds of people. On your bad days when you feel a bit lethargic, you see them and think, ‘let’s go’,” he said.

The Indian footballer also pointed out the common thing between Kohli and Ronaldo. According to him, both of them are never satisfied with what they have achieved.

“I don’t know personally (Cristiano) Ronaldo. I have watched him, studied him. I know Virat (Kohli). The one common thing about these two is that they are just not happy with what they have already achieved,” he said.

“I tried in my whatever way to inculcate the same thing because once when you start getting into that circle where you start thinking about what you have done, good or bad, then you are not in the same track that you want to be,” he added.

Chhetri also added that their hunger to perform even after achieving so much success is unbelievable.

“Whatever happened today, gaya (it is over). Otherwise, how does a Virat Kohli or Ronaldo get up and again be at their best?. It is not easy. When you are successful for so long, when you have done so much, when you have won almost everything, to still get up and do what they are doing is unbelievable,” he said.

Meanwhile, some reports have claimed that Kohli and Rohit Sharma might be part of the upcoming India A vs Australia A ODI series. The BCCI recently named the Indian team for the multi-day series against Australia A. Shreyas Iyer will be leading the team in the two games.
