Cricket Australia reveal their Test team of 2025, includes three Indians

KL Rahul and Travis Head were chosen as openers by Cricket Australia for Test XI team of 2025.

Cricket Australia (CA) revealed their Test XI of 2025 on December 30 (Tuesday), inducting three Indian players in the team. Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah were three Indian players who featured in the Test side of Australian cricket body.

For openers, CA went ahead with KL Rahul and Travis Head. While Rahul scored three centuries in the longest format in 2025, Head finished as the highest run-scorer for Australia with 817 runs in 11 games.

Joe Root, who became the all-time second highest run-scorer in test cricket this year, was chosen at the number three batting slot. Indian captain Shubman Gill and South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma were added in the middle-order, with Alex Carey taking the wicket-keeper’s spot.

Gill, with 983 runs in nine games, ended as the highest run-getter in test cricket this year. Buvuma played a vital role in leading the Proteas to ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 title, smacking a crucial half-century in the final against Australia.

Under his captaincy, South Africa also bagged a 2-0 whitewash in a Test series against India, dominating the latter at their home. Ben Stokes, who gave commendable performances with both bat and ball in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 and The Ashes 2025-26, was picked as an all-rounder.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland picked as pacers in CA’s Test XI of 2025

In the pace department, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, and Jasprit Bumrah made it to the team. Starc gave an outstanding performance in the test series against West Indies and England. In the first two games of The Ashes 2025-26, Starc played a key role in Australia’s victory and clinched Player of the Match awards.

Bumrah was a stand-out performer in the test series against England and South Africa, clinching five-wicket hauls in both campaigns. Boland picked a hat-trick in the third test against West Indies in July, and did a marvellous job in Pat Cummins’ absence in many games.

For the spinner, CA went ahead with Simon Harmer in their test XI team of 2025. The right-arm spinner played a key role in South Africa’s victory in the first test against India, clinching a four-wicket haul in both innings. With 30 wickets in four games, he also finished as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in tests in 2025. Notably, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was picked as the 12th man in CA’s team.
