Neeraj Chopra bagged the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw with an 89.45m throw at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Defending champion Neeraj Chopra missed out on the gold medal to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem in the men’s javelin throw and finished second, thus bagging the silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

At the iconic Stade de France on Thursday night, Chopra bagged his second Olympic medal, having won gold at Tokyo 2020.

While Chopra did improve on his throw from the previous Olympic, from 87.58m in Tokyo to 89.45m in Paris, Arshad Nadeem’s best throw of 92.97m was considerably better than Neeraj’s best.

Nadeem became the first-ever individual Olympic gold medalist for Pakistan.

This was a setback for Chopra, who has dealt with injuries in recent years since winning gold in Tokyo.

Chopra admitted he would look to better his performance and that it was Arshad’s day in Paris.

“Today was Arshad’s day. I gave my best, but some things need to be addressed and worked on. We all feel happy whenever we win a medal for the country. It’s time to improve the game now. We will sit and discuss and enhance our performance,” Chopra told ANI.

Chopra became only the second male athlete post-independence to win two Olympic medals for India in an individual event.

His silver is so far the best effort by an Indian in the ongoing Paris Olympics.

This led to a spate of congratulatory messages from everyone, including former and current Indian cricketers.
