The Los Angeles Olympics 2028 will take place in July 2028. The cricket competition is scheduled to run from July 12 to July 29. Both the men’s and women’s categories in the LA Olympics will feature six teams each.
Moreover, only the top six international teams will qualify for the tournament. Being the host country, the USA will get direct entry. Cricket fans are eager to know on which ground the matches will be played. Notably, all the cricket matches will take place at a single venue at the 2028 Olympics.
Los Angeles Knight Riders’ home ground to host cricket matches
Los Angeles Knight Riders are a team in the USA’s franchise T20 league, Major League Cricket (MLC). Their home ground is set to host the cricket events in the 2028 Olympics.
The Knight Riders Cricket Field is located within the fairplex site in Pomona, California. International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Sanjog Gupta revealed this in a chat with PTI.
“When the International Olympic Committee formally approved cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Games, it wasn’t just a scheduling announcement. It was a recognition that the Olympics should reflect the sports that billions of people love,” he said.
“I can’t imagine a better venue than Pomona for the coming together of this promise… There is something fitting, almost poetic, about the fact that a venue built on the idea of community coming together will now host a sport that, at its very core, is all about community,” he added.
He also described the return of cricket to the Olympics as a historic moment.
“This is a moment in history because what we are breaking ground on today is not simply a cricket field. We are breaking ground on a promise. A promise that took 128 years to keep,” he stated.
“That’s how long the world’s second most popular sport, a game played and passionately followed by more than 2.5 billion people, has been missing from the Olympic stage,” the ICC CEO further concluded.
