Only 10 cricketers will be participating in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 who also played in 2011 edition.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will start on October 5 in India. Ten teams will be taking part in the mega event. This will be the first time that India will host the entire tournament on its own. The last time India hosted World Cup was in 2011, when MS Dhoni led the country to victory.

There will be 48 games in the tournament, including the finals on November 19. Notably, there are a few cricketers who were part of the 2011 World Cup and are also playing in the 2023 World Cup. We will talk about all those cricketers who played in India earlier in World Cup and will be playing again.

Here are 10 Cricketers who are part of the 2023 World Cup and also played in the 2011 edition.

1. Steve Smith :

Steve Smith was part of Australian team that played in 2011 World Cup in India. He played six games in that edition and scored 53 runs at 26.50. He was more of a fluke batter at that time, but Smith is one of the best batters now, and he will be a key player for the coming World Cup 2023 in India.

2. Shakib Al Hasan :

Shakib Al Hasan will be leading Bangladesh in World Cup 2023 in India, and he also played in the earlier World Cup 2011 in India. Shakib played in six games and took eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.81. With the bat, he scored 142 runs at an average of 23.66. He will look to take his team to knockout stage, at least this time around, with some good individual performances.

Veteran Bangladeshi wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim also played in 2011 World Cup in India. It was not a great tournament for him, and he scored just 81 runs in six innings, but he will be key for his team in the coming tournament. Over the years, he has become the backbone of Bangladeshi middle-order.

Former Bangladeshi skipper Mahmudullah also played in 2011 World Cup in India. He played just four games, scored 32 runs, and bowled in three innings, taking up three wickets at an economy of 5.68. Mahmudullah was not in Bangladesh's scheme of things a few months ago, but he was picked up in the team and will have an important role in World Cup 2023.

5. Virat Kohli :

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli was a key member of the team that won 2011 World Cup under MS Dhoni. He started the tournament with a century against Bangladesh in the tournament's opener and played an important innings in the final against Sri Lanka. Virat scored 282 runs at an average of 35.25, and he will be one of the most important players for India in the coming tournament. India's chances will depend a lot on how he performs.

Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin made a surprise entry into Indian squad for World Cup 2023 after Axar Patel got injured. Ashwin was also part of India's World Cup-winning team in 2011. He played two games and took four wickets at an economy rate of 4.61. With the coming tournament set to be played in India, he will have a big role to play for the team.

A few weeks ago, it looked impossible for Kane Williamson to make it to World Cup 2023, but here he is with full intensity and will be leading the team. Williamson played in 2011 World Cup for New Zealand, which made it to the semi-finals. He played four games and scored 99 runs at an average of 49.50. Williamson also led New Zealand to the finals of 2019 edition.

Just like Williamson, veteran pacer Tim Southee faced some hurdles to cross before making it to Kiwi squad for World Cup 2023 because of his unfortunate injury. But after undergoing surgery, he was clearly fit to play. Among all the players on the list, Southee had the best performance in 2011 World Cup and was the second-highest wicket-taker in that competition. He played 8 games and took 18 wickets at an economy rate of 4.31.

Veteran English leg-spinner Adil Rashid is the only English player to feature in 2011 World Cup in India. Though he didn't play any games, he was part of the team. But Rashid played an important part in England's 2019 World Cup-winning team and will be the key weapon for English team in the coming tournament.

Netherlands also played in 2011 World Cup in India, and Wessley Barresi is the only Dutch player to be part of the team and the one that will play in World Cup 2023. In fact, Barresi was one of the highest scorers for his team in the tournament. He made 153 runs in six innings at an average of 25.50 and will be a key batter for Netherlands in the mega event in India.
