Cricketing fraternity mourns sad demise of former England cricketer Graham Thorpe

Graham Thorpe played 100 tests for England and scored 6744 runs with 16 hundreds.
On August 5, Monday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that former England batsman and assistant coach Graham Thorpe had passed away at the age of 55.
Thorpe had been unwell for more than two years. In May 2022, he was hospitalized for being “seriously ill,” just months after taking up the head coach role of the Afghanistan cricket team.
A left-handed batsman from Surrey, Thorpe played 100 tests for England between 1993 and 2005. He scored 6744 runs, raising 16 hundreds and 39 fifties. He also featured in 82 ODIs and captained in three of them. He scored 21937 in 341 first-class games.
After retirement, he swiftly moved into coaching. First, he went Australia to coach New South Wales in 2007. Then he joined the England setup in 2010, initially as a batting coach and then became the assistant coach to Chris Silverwood. He was sacked in 2022 after England’s thrashing in the Ashes in Australia.
The ECB said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Graham Thorpe, MBE, has passed away. There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham’s death.“
The board added, “More than one of England’s finest-ever batters, he was a beloved member of the cricket family and revered by fans all over the world.
“His skill was unquestioned, and his abilities and achievements across a 13-year international career brought so much happiness to his teammates and England and Surrey CCC supporters alike. Later, as a coach, he guided the best England Men’s talent to some incredible victories across all formats of the game.”
Following sad demise of Graham Thorpe, cricketing fraternity paid its tribute to the former England batter.
Cricketers, ex-cricketers and fans poured their tributes on Twitter for Graham Thorpe:
