Virat Kohli has been part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL from 2008 to 2024.
The Indian Premier League was the first of its kind of franchise cricket that brought players from across the world in one team. It came in 2008 with a total of eight teams and all the big players playing in the tournament. Over the years, the IPL has become a household name and emerged as the biggest cricket tournament in the world.
But, there are some names that have been part of the IPL since the inaugural season and are still playing in the 17th edition. In this article, we will talk about seven players who have been part of the IPL since 2008 and are still playing.

7. Wriddhiman Saha
Veteran Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is one of those names who has been part of the IPL since the start. The 38-year-old made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2008 and played until 2010. Then, he joined Chennai Super Kings for three seasons until 2013.
For the next four seasons until 2017, he played for Punjab Kings. In 2018, he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and played until 2021. Now, he has been part of Gujarat Titans since the 2022 edition.
6. Manish Pandey
Veteran Indian batter Manish Pandey is also on this list. Not many would have known that he was the first Indian batter to score a hundred in the IPL. Pandey has played for several franchises in his IPL career. He made his debut in 2008 for Mumbai Indians.
In 2009 and 2010, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru). For the next three seasons until 2013, he played for Pune Warriors India. Later, Pandey joined Kolkata in 2014 and played until 2017. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him in 2018 and he played there till 2021. In 2022, he played for Lucknow Super Giants and then in 2023, Delhi Capitals signed him. In 2024, he is again part of KKR.
5. Shikhar Dhawan
Indian veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan is another player who has been part of the IPL since 2008. Being a Delhi boy; he made his IPL debut in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
In 2009 and 2010, he played for Mumbai Indians. Later, he also played for Deccan Chargers in 2011 and 2012. Dhawan was one of the first few players to join SRH in 2013 and played there until 2018. In 2019, he was transferred to Delhi and played there until 2021. In the 2022 auction, Punjab Kings signed him and made him their captain.
4. Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is another Indian star who has been part of the cash-rich league since the beginning. Karthik made his debut for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008 and played until 2010. He then played for Punjab in 2011 before being picked up by Mumbai Indians for two seasons.
In 2014, he again played for Delhi for one season for a price of INR 12.5 crore. In 2015, RCB signed him for INR 10.5 crore. The custodian also played for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017. After that, he played for KKR from 2018 to 2021. In 2022, he joined RCB again and is part of the IPL 2024 squad.
3. Rohit Sharma
The former Mumbai captain who led them to five titles, Rohit Sharma, is another player who has been part of the IPL since 2008. Notably, Sharma was picked up by Deccan Chargers in 2008 and played there for three seasons. He won the 2009 title with the team.
In 2011, Mumbai Indians signed him. They made him their captain in 2013 and he led them to the title in his first season at the helm. The right-hander also led his team to the 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 titles.
2. Virat Kohli
There is only one man who has been part of only one franchise since the inaugural season in 2008. He is none other than former Indian captain Virat Kohli. The Delhi cricketer was not signed by the Delhi-based franchise, but the Royal Challengers bought him for a price of INR 12 lakhs in 2008.
In 2011, he was retained for a price of INR 82.8 lakhs until 2013. In 2014, Kohli was getting a salary of 12.5 crores from the franchise, which was increased in 2018 to 17 crores. Now, he is getting paid INR 15 crore by the same franchise.
1. MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni was the most expensive player at the 2008 auction. He was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for INR 6 crores. He led them to the final in the first season. But, Chennai won their maiden title under him in 2010 and they also retained it successfully in 2011.
In 2016 and 2017, he played for Rising Pune Supergiant after CSK got suspended for two seasons. In 2018, he rejoined CSK and took them to their third title. Under him, CSK also won the 2021 and 2023 IPL seasons and he is still part of the league.
