Neeraj Chopra recorded a best effort of 88.17m in his second attempt to become World Champion in Javelin Throw event.
In a resounding victory that resonates with national pride, Neeraj Chopra has clinched the gold medal in the menโs javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. With an astounding throw covering 88.17 meters, Chopra not only secured his place in history as the first Indian athlete to win gold at the senior world championships but also garnered heartfelt accolades from the cricketing fraternity, an integral part of Indiaโs sports culture.
For Neeraj, who has now won every significant championship attainable under his control, the medal completed a very special set. Neeraj has won gold medals at the Olympics, Global Championships, the Diamond League, the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, the Asian Games in 2018, and the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Neeraj was the first track and field athlete from India to win a gold medal in the Olympics (Tokyo 2020), the Diamond League Championship (2022), and the Junior World Championships (2016) before Budapest 23.
