Sourav Ganguly played 311 ODIs and 113 tests for India from 1992 to 2008.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly celebrated his 52nd birthday on July 8. Ganguly, fondly known as the ‘Prince of Kolkata,’ made his ODI debut for India in 1992 and his test debut in June 1996 at the Lord’s, where he hit a century. He took over as India’s full-time captain in 2000 following Sachin Tendulkar’s decision to step down from the role.

Ganguly is the fourth-most successful captain in Indian cricketing history till now. The Prince of Kolkata captained the national side from 1999 to 2005. In 195 matches across formats, Ganguly-led India won 97 games and lost 78.

During Ganguly’s tenure as Indian skipper, the Men in Blue reached the finals of the ICC Knockout Trophy in 2000, won the ICC Champions Trophy 2002 jointly with Sri Lanka, reached the ODI World Cup 2003 final and also won the infamous Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia 2-1 at home in 2001.

One of the most unforgettable moments in Indian cricket history was when Ganguly removed his shirt at the Lord’s balcony after his side’s greatest comeback win against England in the Natwest Trophy final in 2002.

Ganguly played 113 test matches and scored 7212 runs at an average of 42.17. The former Indian skipper also hit 16 centuries and 35 half-centuries in the longest format. In ODIs, the 52-year-old cricketer amassed 11363 runs in 311 games at an average of 41.02. The opener registered 22 hundred and 72 fifties.

Ganguly retired from international cricket in 2008, making him one of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time. Following his retirement, Ganguly did several commentary stints and then joined the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) before becoming the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president.

As BCCI president, he played a huge role in bringing Day/Night test match to India. The Indian cricket team played their first ever pink-ball Day/Night test against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens in 2019.

Sourav’s term as the BCCI president ended in 2022, and since then he has been with the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals, where he is the Director of Cricket.

As one of the greatest Indian captains and batters Sourav Ganguly celebrates his 52nd birthday, wishes poured in from several former and current cricketers. Here’s how everyone wished Dada on his birthday.
