Earlier reports emerged that Stephen Fleming has been approached by the BCCI for coaching role.
The BCCI has not sought Stephen Fleming to be the Indian team’s head coach, according to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management. According to reports, the Indian board sees the former New Zealand captain as the ideal choice to succeed Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the T20 World Cup 2024, and according to rumors, the former India captain has declined to reapply for another term. Dravid has led the Indian squad since 2021, and the team has experienced significant success under his leadership.
The BCCI has formally opened applications for the position of head coach, allowing anyone to express their interest.
According to the Indian Express, the BCCI considers Fleming a “suitable contender” to succeed Dravid due to his man-management skills and success rate at CSK, where he led the franchise to five IPL titles under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
It is also suggested that veteran Indian players would prefer a coach with Fleming’s credentials and technical expertise.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan refutes reports of Stephen Fleming and BCCI being in contact for the head coach role
Despite reports and speculation that the BCCI is considering Stephen Fleming as a potential successor to Rahul Dravid as the Indian cricket team’s head coach, CSK have categorically denied that any such approach has been made to the Kiwi legend, adding to the situation’s confusion and uncertainty.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Now that nothing like this has been mentioned so far.
“I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either. There has been talk about this from the management with Fleming either,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Now.
Fleming has become a renowned T20 coach after taking over as CSK’s head coach in 2009. He coached the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League for four years. In addition to the Chennai franchise, he also coaches the Johannesburg Super Kings in SA20 and the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket, both of which are CSK’s sister franchises. He also serves as the head coach for the Southern Brave in The Hundred.
