CSK have parted ways with their former head coach Stephen Fleming.
Chennai Super Kings are entering a new chapter after ending one of the longest and most successful coaching collaborations in the history of any cricket league.
The franchise and Stephen Fleming parted ways last month, ending an 18-year-long legacy that established CSK as one of the most consistent teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
The decision to part ways with the former New Zealand great was taken after CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons, following their fifth title win in 2023.
This is CSK’s longest streak without playing in the playoffs, as the team has qualified for 10 IPL finals, which makes their record even more remarkable. Moreover, Fleming has been appointed as England’s red-ball head coach.
Attention has now shifted towards finding their new coach for the upcoming seasons ahead of their next IPL season in 2027. Though several names have emerged in reports, CSK are yet to confirm the identity of the person who can officially replace Fleming.

According to a report attributed to the Times of India, Chennai Super Kings are likely to announce their new head coach by September 20th. The report also suggests that the appointment could be someone who has previously worked with MS Dhoni. However, no official candidate has been announced.
One of the most prominent names associated with this series of events was Mike Hussey, the CSK batting coach who has been part of the franchise for nearly a decade. A few other names that were associated with the developments include Delhi Capitals coach Hemang Badani.
However, Matthew Hayden backed Dinesh Karthik, RCB mentor for the position, citing his excellent record with the Challengers.
The appointment will be very significant because Fleming was much more than a conventional coach during his time at CSK. To continue the relationship between players and the coaching setup, CSK could therefore prefer continuity by appointing someone familiar with the franchise’s methods and ambience.
