CSK signed Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 crores in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have issued an official statement on Dewald Brevis’ signing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The five-time champions have denied the claims of Ravichandran Ashwin, who said that the franchise paid extra to the young batter.

CSK, since the last few days, have been under massive scanner, and this came after Ravichandran Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, made a bold claim. The off-spinner said that the franchise paid extra money than his base price to sign him as a replacement.

Ravichandran Ashwin said that 2-3 teams were interested in Dewald Brevis, but none of them were keen to offer him extra money. He had said:

“I heard 2-3 teams were in talks with him, but they weren’t willing to pay extra, so negotiations fell through. While picking up a player mid-season, there will be discussions with the player’s agent to negotiate on an ‘X’ amount apart from the base price to acquire his services.”

Following this, CSK faced a lot of criticism over the same. Notably, Dewald Brevis went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction, and then later in the season, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side acquired him as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh for INR 2.2 crores.

Amid the criticism, CSK released the official statement, giving a befitting reply to Ravichandran Ashwin. The statement read:

“All actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of the IPL.”

The franchise also shared the IPL Player Regulations 2025-27, adding:

“A replacement Player can be recruited at a League Fee which shall not be more than the League Fee that would have been payable to the injured/unavailable Player for the relevant Season.”

Dewald Brevis added energy to the CSK lineup, which was struggling to get going. The South African batter hammered 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of more than 180 in the league. In the recent T20I against Australia, he slammed a 41-ball century.
