Stephen Fleming helped CSK win five titles in the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a tough time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the last few years. The 2026 edition marked the third straight season time the franchise didn’t make it into the playoffs.

The Men in Yellow won their last title in IPL 2023, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Ahead of the 2024 edition, Dhoni stepped down as CSK skipper and was replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Under Gaikwad’s captaincy, the five-time champions have struggled big time.

With five trophies, CSK have won the joint-most titles along with Mumbai Indians (MI). They have reached the final and playoffs more than any other franchise over the years. The credit for CSK’s successful journey goes to former captain MS Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming.

Fleming played for the franchise in first season in 2008 and was appointed head coach next year. The Dhoni-Fleming pair turned CSK into the most dominant and consistent team in the tournament’s history.

Although Dhoni left the captaincy ahead of IPL 2024, Fleming remained the head coach till the IPL 2026. However, he has now parted ways with the team.
