Since the last years, CSK have been below-par in the IPL.
The last few seasons have not gone well for the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since winning the 2023 edition under captain MS Dhoni, the franchise has lacked consistency.
Not just a win; in fact, this is the first time when they have gone three seasons without making it to the playoffs. They finished the last edition at 8th place after winning only six games out of 14.
Consistent decline in the performances has surely impacted the management as well. As a result, the franchise parted ways with head coach Stephen Fleming, who played a crucial role in seven major titles (5 IPL trophies and 2 Champions League T20 titles) with the franchise.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni didn’t feature in a single game last season as he was nursing an injury, which kept him on the bench. His availability for the IPL 2027 is still not confirmed. Meanwhile, the franchise has decided to set up a 2-3 day fitness test for all their players.
All CSK players to undergo the 2-3 fitness tests for availability for the IPL 2027 – Reports

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have failed to make it to the playoffs in the last three seasons. They would like to end this drought in 2027. As a result, the franchise has started its preparations for the coming season, and they have called up all the players for the fitness test.
As per reports by Rohit Jugular of Revsportz, the franchise wants to be sure and check the fitness of players before they make any decisions for releases, trades, or retentions. This is a forced decision after a debacle in the IPL 2026, where several players got injured mid-season.
It impacted the performance of the team, and they couldn’t play with a settled combination. Notably, there have been rumours of CSK wanting to trade in Hardik Pandya and being in talks with Mumbai Indians.
According to reports, MI earlier asked for Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatra. But with Mhatre not fit, the talks shifted to Dube with Dewald Brevis and an additional amount of 10 crores. Though there is no official news on this, but if it happens, it will be one of the biggest trades ever in the IPL’s history.
When did CSK win their last IPL title?
