Alex Carey grabbed a mind-blowing catch to dismiss Phil Salt.
Australia got their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign off to a flying start (literally) when Alex Carey took an incredible one-handed catch of England opener Phil Salt.
England and Australia opened their campaign on Saturday in Lahore, with Australian skipper Steve Smith winning the toss and electing to field first on a flat pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Bereft of their first-choice pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Australia needed an early breakthrough on a good batting track, and they got it via an outstanding grab from Carey, who was not in his traditional wicket-keeperโs role as Australia have given that duty to Josh Inglis in white-ball cricket.
Salt chipped a full ball from Ben Dwarshuis and looked to hit it over Carey at mid-on. He almost succeeded in it and could have earned a boundary if not for Careyโs spectacular intervention.
Carey launched himself to his right with his hand out. The ball thudded into his hand but Carey kept a hold on it. At the moment of taking the catch, Carey was completely airborne.
