"Can we get more..."- Dale Steyn praises MS Dhoni's explosive batting in IPL 2024

MS Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024.

MS Dhoni needs no introduction in cricket. He is probably the best captain that India has produced in the game. Dhoni is the only captain in history to win three different ICC titles under his leadership: The T20 World Cup 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Not just his captaincy, but his work behind the wickets is another strong aspect to his game.

Many fans admire Dhoni for his finishing ability with the bat. MS Dhoni was one of the main reasons that the role of the finisher became mainstream. He was one of the best men to do this job in history. That’s what he is continuing in the Indian Premier League as well. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain has played some incredible cameos in the ongoing IPL 2024, which has made fans go crazy.

Not just fans, but many former cricketers have lauded the former CSK captain for the way he is still going strong. Former South African speedster Dale Steyn is certainly one of those who is in awe of MS Dhoni. Notably, the keeper-battter has chosen a role where he comes to bat in the last couple of overs and starts hitting the ball.

It has benefited CSK as well and fans love to see him smashing sixes and fours. In a discussion on Jio Cinema ahead of the MI vs PBKS clash on Friday, Steyn said that he is a big fan of Dhoni and when he comes to bat, it makes his mood better. He also said that the IPL has taken South Africa by storm and made the fans stick to TV during the IPL season.

Steyn said, “Not only has it engulfed the IPL. That’s engulfed many in South Africa and myself, I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I seem to be glued to the seat when the IPL is on. My girlfriend says that my TV is broken, it’s stuck on cricket right now (IPL) and watching MS. That’s exactly what we want to do. You know, I’ve been on the receiving end of it before. I’ve watched it from a fan’s point of view and I loved it. I mean, I am in a much better mood. So, can we get more of MS Dhoni out in the middle? That would be great.”

MS Dhoni hasn’t batted much in IPL 2024. He has faced only 25 balls and scored 59 runs at a strike rate of 236, which is unbelievable. He has also hit six sixes and four boundaries. His unbeaten cameo of 20 off four balls in the game against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium made the difference for his team.
