David Miller ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026? Huge fitness update arrives

South Africa Cricket Team are gearing up for ICC T20 World Cup 2026. They are placed in Group D in the tournament alongside Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand, and UAE. Proteas are scheduled to play their opening game against Canada on February 9 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Ahead of the tournament, they have been marred with injuries and have already lost two crucial members in Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira. Both of them were injured in SA20 2025-26 and were part of the initial squad. They were then replaced by Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton.
David Miller was another player who got injured in SA20 2025-26. Miller suffered a groin injury while fielding in a clash against Joburg Super Kings. He left the field in the first innings and subsequently did not bat in the second innings. As a result, he was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament as well as the three-match T20I series against West Indies.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has provided a big update on Miller’s fitness. The left-handed batsman has completed all necessary medical protocols and regained full fitness. Now, he will pull up his socks to play for South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The 36-year-old is the most experienced batter for the Proteas and will play a crucial role in the lower order. His ability to clear boundaries with ease and take the innings deep will be crucial for the 2024 runners-up.
After Miller was ruled out of the T20I series against West Indies, CSA had informed that he was recovering from an adductor muscle injury.
“David Miller suffered an adductor muscle injury on Monday while playing for Paarl Royals and will play no part in the T20I series. His availability for the T20 World Cup remains subject to the outcome of a fitness test ahead of the support period. Rubin Hermann has been added to the squad for the T20I series against West Indies in place of Miller,” CSA had said.
Meanwhile, Aiden Markram will captain South Africa in T20 World Cup 2026. They will also play a warm-up match against India on February 4. Below is their updated squad for the tournament.
