"David Warner is playing against his own team", Harbhajan Singh slams DC captain
David Warner has made three half-centuries in the four matches DC has played thus far in IPL 2023.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has severely criticized Delhi Capitals (DC) captain David Warner for his poor performances with the bat despite scoring multiple half-centuries in the four matches he has played in IPL 2023.
Delhi Capitals (DC) lost their fourth match in a row in the ongoing tournament, with fourth one at the hands of Mumbai Indians in their own backyard of the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi. DC batted first after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field.
DC managed to put up 172 runs with Warner making 51 and Axar Patel making 54 runs, his maiden Indian Premier League half-century. Manish Pandey also contributed 26 runs. For Mumbai, Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff picked three wickets each.
In reply, Rohit Sharma-led the MI chase with 65, while Tilak Varma made 41 and Ishan Kishan made 31 runs. However, the match went right down to the final ball but Cameron Green (17*) and Tim David (13*) took MI past the finishing line with 6 wickets in hand.
What's the point of scoring such runs, he needs to score fast: Harbhajan Singh on David Warner
When asked in the post-match presentation, if his throw could have been more accurate with DC wicketkeeper Abishek Porel needing to leap high to catch his high throw, Warner replied: "Timmy David Was On The Wrong Side Of It, So I Tried To Keep It At That Height."
India greats Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag criticized David Warner for his slow batting and captaincy decisions as well.
Harbhajan Singh, on Star Sports, said: "What's The Point Of Scoring Such Runs? He Needs To Score Fast. It's Like He Is Playing Against His Own Team. Also, I Think It's Sheer Excuse About What He Said About The Fielding Part. Nobody Has That Much Time To Think When Collecting And Throwing The Ball."
On the other hand, Sehwag said: "With Two Needed Of The Last Ball, He Should Have Been Standing Close. He Was Standing At The Rope. He Is Scoring Runs But These Small Factors Should Have Been Kept In Mind.”
DC will now face RCB in Bengaluru on April 15.
