David Willey announced his arrival in the IPL 2023 with back-to-back wickets.

Coming in for his English teammate Reece Topley, Pace Bowling all-rounder David Willey had a great start to the IPL 2023. David Willey announced his arrival by cleaning up Venkatesh Iyer and Mandeep Singh in two consecutive deliveries in his second over. He disturbed the furniture of Iyer and Mandeep easily with his pace. Willey bowled his second over Double wicket maiden to give Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers a chance to put Kolkata Knight Riders under pressure. KKR after getting the drubbing against Punjab Kings, changed their opening combination.

KKR after getting the drubbing against Punjab Kings changed their opening combination. Against RCB, they picked Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz as an opener. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mandeep Singh opened the batting against Punjab. Coming in place of injured Reece Topley, Willey troubled KKR batters on many occasions. Willey in his quota of 4 overs gave 16 and picked up 2 wickets with a double wicket maiden. Other than him and Leg spinner Karn Sharma, RCB failed to contain KKR to a modest total.

Despite early blows, KKR fightback

After a few early blows, Rahmanullah Gurbaj (57) along with Rinku Singh (46) steadied the ship for KKR. Shardul Thakur also chipped in with the bat and finished his innings as the Top scorer for KKR. Shardul played a quick fire inning of 68 runs in 29 balls smashing 9 fours and 3 long sixes. Thakur’s onslaught overpowered David Willey's bowling and KKR ended up crossing the 200 mark. KKR in their 20 overs scored 204 runs losing 7 wickets.  

Pacer David Willey has been a regular for RCB in previous seasons. RCB in their opening game picked Reece Topley, who picked up an injury. Willey’s bowling in T20s will always prove crucial for Bangalore.
