Parth Jindal voiced his opinion against the Impact Player rule during the meeting with the BCCI on July 31.

Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal has argued against the Impact Player rule during the meeting between the BCCI and the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners that was hosted on July 31 at the BCCI headquarters at the Wankhede Stadium.

Jindal wants the BCCI to scrap this rule from the IPL 2025 season, citing that it is “detrimental to Indian cricket in terms of the development of allrounders.”

The Impact Player rule was introduced in the IPL in 2023 with the motive to give Indian players more chances. However, this year, it has received plenty of criticism, including from Rohit Sharma and multiple franchise owners, as it hinders the development of all-rounders. Players like Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube barely got to bowl in the IPL this year.

Impact Player is rule not good for Indian cricket: Parth Jindal

Speaking after the meeting with the BCCI and other franchise owners, Jindal voiced his opinion, arguing that Indian cricket has suffered because of the Impact Player rule as it doesn’t motivate cricketers to develop a secondary skill.

Jindal was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo, “Some people want it because it gives a chance to young players to play in the IPL. Some people don’t want it because it is detrimental to Indian cricket in terms of the development of allrounders. So it’s a mixed bag. I’m on the second camp. I don’t want it. I prefer the game as it is 11 versus 11, and I think all-rounders are very important. And you have different players who don’t bowl in the IPL or don’t bat in the IPL because of this rule, which is not good for Indian cricket.”

Jindal also revealed that some franchise owners don’t want the IPL 2025 auction to be a mega auction, which “surprised” him.
