DC all set to SACK Hemang Badani; Ex-India captain to become new HEAD COACH in IPL 2027 - Reports

Under Hemang Badani, DC finished sixth in IPL 2026.
After finishing sixth in the 2026 edition, Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to witness massive changes for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. Despite having a team with several big-name Indian and foreign stars, the franchise was unable to qualify for the playoffs.
There will also a change of operational control in the franchise for the upcoming season. Co-owners GMR Sports and JSW Sports, under an agreement, will take turns to run the men’s team every two years, and JSW will return to the driver’s seat in IPL 2027.
This makes the future of Delhi Capitals‘ support staff even more intriguing. There are multiple reports of a new coaching setup being in talks for the franchise as it prepares itself to end its search for its first IPL trophy.
Sourav Ganguly to replace Hemang Badani as head coach

According to Cricbuzz, Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, is going to replace Hemang Badani as Delhi Capitals’ head coach for IPL 2027.
Badani was promoted as Delhi Capitals’ head coach following the departure of Ricky Ponting from the role in IPL 2025. He worked with team director Venugopal Rao, bowling coach Munaf Patel and support staff.
Ganguly, on the other hand, has had a long history with the Capitals franchise. He was the advisor and mentor of the team before being appointed as BCCI president and has been closely connected to the Capitals group in various capacities, including being with the Women’s Premier League team and in SA20 with Pretoria Capitals.
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has also been rumoured to take on the coaching job of DC for IPL 2027. The franchise hasn’t made any official statement, but there have been several reports suggesting that Yuvraj is being eyed for a batting coach position in the proposed restructuring plan.
Both Delhi Capitals and Sourav Ganguly have yet to officially confirm the appointment. But once these changes are confirmed, the franchise would enter IPL 2027 with an entirely new leadership group overseeing cricket operations.
Why are Delhi Capitals making changes to their coaching setup?
The changes are linked to the franchise’s ownership arrangement and come after Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the IPL 2026 season.
