Deandra Dottin had taken an unexpected retirement from international cricket in August 2022.

Veteran West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has come out of retirement to make herself available for selection for this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be played in Bangladesh in October.

On Saturday, July 27, it was confirmed that Dottin, who had retired in 2022, has reversed her international retirement, which is a significant boost to the West Indies team as Dottin is one of the greatest women’s cricketers with an experience of 127 WT20Is and 143 WODIs. She’s been plying her trade in women’s T20 leagues around the world in the last couple of years.

In August 2022, while captaining Barbados in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Dottin had shockingly retired from international cricket, citing a “non-conducive” environment.

The 33-year-old has now, after reflecting on her career and having “thoughtful dialogue,” decided to return to international cricket and play for West Indies again with the WT20 World Cup 2024 in mind.

In a letter to Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dottin said, “Representing West Indies in international cricket has always been a matter of great pride and passion for me. After a period of reflection and thoughtful dialogue with various parties within Cricket West Indies, including Cricket West Indies President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, I am pleased to inform you that I am eager to return to the game that I love, and contribute my utmost to the West Indies women’s team across all formats, with immediate effect.

“I am confident that my experience, maturity, and skills will add value to the team as it has done in the past, and I am prepared to furnish my best efforts in every match and training session to ensure the team’s winning trajectory in international cricket. Moreover, I am enthusiastic about mentoring younger players and contributing to the overall development of women’s cricket in our region,” she added.

Dottin holds the record for the fastest century in Women’s T20Is, off 38 balls against South Africa during the 2010 WT20 World Cup.
