Deepak Chahar to return in the first week of May, Ben Stokes to miss 3 more matches for CSK in IPL 2023
Injuries continue to push CSK against the wall as both Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes are set to miss games for a while.
Recuperating from a loss is one thing and recovering from injuries is another. The CSK camp has been haunted by injuries in IPL 2023. Starting from Mukesh Chaudhary and Kylie Jamieson who were ruled out of the tournament, the list has got some new additions to it. Sisanda Magala, Deepak Chahar, MS Dhoni, and Ben Stokes are the latest ones.
Although the management has given a nod to Dhoni's availability after a minor scare of his knee injury, Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes will be out of action for a while. As per the reports, the England all-rounder and Test captain will require one more week to be fully fit to return to action. He suffered an injury on his left toe while bowling.
"Ben is doing well, he is recovering fast, and should definitely be fit for the April 30 game," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said. "He could even be ready earlier, maybe by the April 27 game," the CSK official added.
Deepak Chahar, one of the trusted players in the CSK lineup, will be out of play as well and even for a longer duration than Ben Stokes. After missing a full season of IPL 2022, Deepak Chahar made a return in IPL 2023. Making a comeback, Chahar was a part of the playing XI for the first three games. Returning expensive figures, Chahar failed to make an impact with his swing bowling. He walked off the field after bowling just one over against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede last week.
"He will take longer than Ben to be back in action. Hopefully, he will be ready by the first week of May," Viswanathan said.
Sisanda Magala and Simarjeet Singh are out of action too
Not ending here, CSK's overseas recruit, Sisanda Magala, who made his IPL debut against Mumbai Indians last week, could not complete his quota of overs against Rajasthan Royals. Speaking on the extent of his injury, the management said that the South African will take at least a week to be ready for match play.
To add to the plights of CSK, Simarjeet Singh, another seamer is on the sidelines due to an injury. After missing almost, the entire last domestic season, Simarjeet Singh is on the road to recovery. He hasn’t played competitive T20 cricket for a long time and CSK wouldn’t want to field someone who isn’t 120% fit.
Left with limited resources of pace bowling, CSK will hope for a quicker return of all of these players. In the four outings so far, CSK have won and lost two matches each. Their next battle awaits RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
