IPL 2023: Deepak Chahar claims recovering from injury "mentally challenging time"
Deepak Chahar missed major part of 2022 with injuries.
The year 2022 was not an easy one for Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar. Chahar missed out on several tournaments including the Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings missed their top bowler in the previous season and ended up in 9th position in the points table. For Deepak Chahar’s Indian Dream, his IPL 2023 performance matters the most. Chahar has been a little out of colour since his comeback from the injury. He is yet to pick up a wicket in the IPL 2023 for Chennai Super Kings.
CSK Bank on Deepak Chahar
A threat with the new ball, Deepak Chahar is taking time to get back to his old rhythm. He has not been in the best of his form after his comeback. Deepak Chahar talking about his rehabilitation and injury, has said it was mentally very challenging for him. He said, “I had two major injuries, which are critical for a pace bowler. Other pacers are also struggling with a stress fracture in the back; it takes a long time to recover”. Chahar had to tackle multiple injuries during that time.
Initially, Chahar had a quadriceps injury but while recovering at NCA he hurt his back and had to wait for a long time to make a comeback. Talking about his rhythm, Chahar said, “They are both very big injuries, you are out for months. Anyone who comes back after the injury takes time, especially when you are a fast bowler”. Chennai’s pace attack is inexperienced this season. Chahar is bowling along with Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Tushar Deshpande. They have been criticised for conceding too many extras.
Talking about CSK’s bowling he said that he is working according to the plan and field set as per the rules. CSK pacers have struggled to contain opposition batters from scoring. Apart from this, CSK pace attack conceded 12 wides and 3 no-balls against Gujarat Titans. Deepak Chahar has bowled 8 overs in two games and gave away 84 runs without picking up a wicket. Against Gujarat, he conceded 55 runs in his spell. Chennai Super Kings are hopeful that Chahar will be back to his best soon.
