Abishek Porel is a 23-year-old Indian cricketer, who represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He plays for Bengal in the domestic circuit, and has created an image of an explosive wicket-keeper batsman.
Of late, Porel is in the news for the wrong reasons. He has been charged with rape and other serious crimes, by a young girl. The court has issued an arrest of Delhi Capitals (DC) star Abishek Porel and one another accused in this matter.
The criminal case was registered on the complaint of a medical student alleging rape, criminal intimidation and other serious offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Abishek Porel accused of sexually abusing a medical student
A girl studying medicine has made serious allegations on the two accused. She has alleged that she was sexually abused and was later blackmailed about publishing her private photos on the internet.
A case was registered in the Magra police station. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the arrest of the cricketer Abishek Porel and the other accused in this regard.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, who issued ruling on this case, also ordered to sieze the electronic devices of the two so that no objectionable items are released from their devices. The two are accused of blackmailing even other girls by taking their private photos.
A surprising aspect was, that no one from the accused’s side was present at the hearing. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused. The court has ordered a detailed report on the steps taken regarding the arrests. The next hearing is scheduled for August 11.
Who is Abishek Porel?
The 23-year-old left-handed wicket-keeper batsman hails from West Bengal and represents them in domestic cricket. He was picked by Delhi Capitals for the IPL in 2023. 2024, and 2025 were his breakthrough seasons when he scored more than 300 runs for them in the tournament.
In First Class cricket, he has more than 1400 runs to his name in 32 matches, with 12 half-centuries. He has played a lot of T20 cricket, and has amassed 1590 runs in 61 matches, at an impressive strike rate of 160.
