Shreyas Iyer got injured during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has provided an injury update about Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer. He said that the batter is much better and is recovering faster than expected.
Indian Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer was at the receiving end of a life-threatening injury in the third ODI of the three-match series against Australia in Sydney. He fell badly as he attempted to take the catch of Alex Carey and ended up hurting his rib cage.
After he was taken to the dressing room, his parameters were extremely low and then he was shifted to the hospital. It was revealed that there was internal bleeding due to spleen laceration and then he stayed in the ICU for a few days, making the cricket fraternity worried.

However, thankfully for him, he underwent surgery and showed signs of progress. The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia came up with the latest update, saying that he is in regular touch with the team doctor and the batter has recovered well. Speaking to The Times of India, he said:
“Shreyas is much, much, much better. His recovery has been much faster than the doctor expected. I’m in regular touch with Dr Rizwan (Khan, Indian team doctor who stayed back with Iyer to assist with his treatment at the Sydney hospital).
“Normally, he should take six to eight weeks (to recover completely), but you can expect a surprise from him because he may recover much earlier.”
Saikia added that doctors are happy with Iyer’s progress as the batter is out of danger. He also added that the batter underwent a different procedure, which is why he recovered early. He added:
“The doctors are very satisfied with his progress. He has started his normal functioning (routine chores). His injury was very severe, but he has recovered and is out of danger, which is why he was shifted from the ICU to his room in the hospital yesterday. Shreyas didn’t undergo surgery but underwent a different procedure, which is why he recovered so early.”
The reports claimed that Iyer showed great signs of progress and was in fine shape, eating solid food, walking in the Sydney hospital without support, and taking phone calls. It remains to be seen when he returns to action.
