"He has always been in role model…"- Dewald Brevis on being compared with AB de Villiers

Many fans have nicknamed Dewald Brevis as Baby AB.

South Africa batter Dewald Brevis said that AB de Villiers has always been his role model and he is honoured by being compared with him. Notably, many fans have nicknamed Brevis as Baby AB due to his hard-hitting batting style like AB de Villiers.

Former South Africa skipper De Villiers was known for his aggressive batting approach. Due to his ability to hit sixes all over the ground, he was also nicknamed Mr. 360 by fans. He retired from international cricket in 2018.

Recently, Brevis showcased his hard-hitting abilities during the T20I series against Australia. In the second T20I, the right-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten century to power the team to victory. Notably, Brevis has played just 10 T20Is for South Africa but holds a stunning strike rate of 191.57.

During a chat with Sky Sports, Brevis reacted to being called ‘Baby AB’ by fans. The 22-year-old said that De Villiers has always been his role model and he is honoured to be compared with him.

“Definitely. Whenever I was called with AB, it’s never been any pressure. We actually spoke about it yesterday. But yeah, it was always just an honour for me and to be compared with him because he’s always been my role model,” he said

“And yeah, I think now to just to play my own game and to just focus on enjoying. And I think as time goes on, people would see the way I play is different. And I just want to be original to that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Brevis is currently busy in the white-ball series against England. He is part of both ODI and T20I squads. The opening ODI took place on September 2 in Leeds, which the Proteas won by seven wickets. Both sides will clash in three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is during the campaign.
