"His room door is always open…"- Dewald Brevis shares experience of playing with MS Dhoni in IPL 2025

South Africa batter Dewald Brevis has opened up on his experience with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team and MS Dhoni during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The young batter heaped rich praise on former skipper of the franchise, saying that he was impressed by his humbleness towards fellow players.

Brevis joined CSK midway during IPL 2025 as a replacement player. The right-handed batsman added fire power to the struggling side, impressing many with his batting show. He scored 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 180.0. He also slammed two half-centuries.

CSK were led by MS Dhoni in IPL 2025 after skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway due to an ankle injury. However, the Men in Yellow gave a dismal performance in the tournament, failing to qualify for the playoffs for a second consecutive season.

Dewald Brevis heap praise on MS Dhoni

During a conversation with AB de Villiers on YouTube, Brevis said that he had a beautiful experience in IPL 2025. He also said that Dhoni is very humble and he supported him during the tournament.

“I’ll always remember like, whenever I tell people it’s amazing. I had amazing times, my four years [in IPL]. It was incredible. And I had to go through all of the journey like it’s been beautiful, and the one thing that I can just say from MS is his humbleness and who he is as a person that stood out for me. How he is basically off the field, the time he has for players, for people,” he said.

Brevis also revealed that he spent some time in Dhoni’s room during IPL 2025 and interacted with him.

“His room door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. And I found myself a few times in his room just sitting there with whatever he’s busy like chatting to him about his hobbies, watching cricket”, he said.

“And yeah, that’s just amazing and just to see how what he does like off the field and like everyone knows what he does on the field and at training and yeah, just it’s very special,” he added.

Meanwhile, CSK finished at the last spot in IPL 2025 points table. Out of 14 games, they won just four games and lost 10 encounters. While Shivam Dube was the leading run-scorer for the side with 357 runs, Noor Ahmad finished as the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps. Dhoni scored 196 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 135.17.
