Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma got married in 2020 in Haryana.
Dhanashree Verma has finally opened up about her much-publicised divorce from Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal. The duo had gotten married in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and became one of the most talked-about couples on social media.
However, they began separating from one another and lived apart since 2024, and their divorce was confirmed in 2025. They were seen applying for divorce by mutual consent outside the Bandra Family Court in February 2025. The court rejected their plea for a relaxation of the six-month cooling-off period.
On March 20, 2025, Yuzvendra and Dhanashree formally separated after living apart for 18 months. Chahal reportedly gave Dhanashree ₹4.75 crores in alimony.
“Divorce is not something to celebrate. It’s not a celebration; it’s something very sad and deeply emotional. People must not forget that it’s not just about the two individuals, but also about the families involved—those who genuinely love and care about you.
“I also believe true grief and chaos in a marriage have to be understood and acknowledged by both parties. Marriage begins with love, but when it ends, it often ends in distrust. The day it actually happened was very emotional for me and my family, and I’m sure for everyone around us. Even though we were mentally prepared for it, when the verdict was about to be given, I broke down completely. I started howling in front of everyone,” Verma said on the Spill The Tea podcast.
Dhanashree is a choreographer and social media influencer, while Yuzvendra Chahal is an Indian cricketer, playing for Men in Blue since 2017.

In addition to discussing her emotional breakdown, Dhanashree made fun of Yuzvendra for sporting the “be your own sugar daddy” T-shirt on the last day of their divorce hearing.
‘Be Your Own Sugar Daddy’ was written on a T-shirt that Chahal wore on the day of his last divorce hearing, grabbing attention. Addressing the viral moment, Dhanashree said Yuzvendra could have taken a private route instead of making a public spectacle of their divorce.
“You know that people are going to blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this. Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai? (You should have sent it on WhatsApp. Why wear the t-shirt?” Verma said on the podcast.
“He walked out first, and that whole t-shirt episode unfolded. I wasn’t even aware of it at the time because I was still inside. I left through the back door because I would rather not face the media. I was just wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans.
I sat in my car, still trying to catch my breath. Before I even realized what had happened, people began speculating about me because of that stunt. Sitting there, I felt like, ‘It’s done. It’s dusted.’ Somewhere, I did feel bad. Why was I even crying about this? Then I thought, forget it—let’s just end this. That moment gave me the motivation to laugh and move on. It’s over,” Verma said.
