Dhruv Jurel equals 20-year-old wicket-keeping record of MS Dhoni in Duleep Trophy

Dhruv Jurel took seven catches in India B’s second innings in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. 

On Sunday, Dhruv Jurel equalled a 20-year-old wicket-keeping record of the legendary MS Dhoni in the Duleep Trophy. Jurel achieved this historic milestone during India A vs India B Duleep Trophy 2024 clash in Bengaluru.

India A wicket-keeper Jurel took seven catches in India B’s second innings, which helped his side restrict the opponents to 184. Jurel took catches of Yashavi Jaiswal (9), Abhimanyu Easwaran (4), Musheer Khan (0), Sarfaraz Khan (46), Nitish Reddy (19), Sai Kishore (0), and Navdeep Saini (13).

After taking seven catches, the 23-year-old Jurel matched the Duleep Trophy record set by MS Dhoni, who took seven catches in an innings during the 2004-05 edition of the tournament while playing for East Zone against Central Zone.

Before Dhoni, the record was held by Sunil Benjamin, who took six catches while playing for Central Zone against North Zone in the 1973-94 competition.

Most catches by a wicket-keeper in an innings in the Duleep Trophy:

  • MS Dhoni (East Zone) – 7 catches vs Central Zone in 2004-05
  • Dhruv Jurel (India A) – 7 catches vs India B in 2024-25
  • Sunil Benjamin (Central Zone) – 6 catches vs North Zone in 1973-74
  • Sadanand Viswanat (South Zone) – 6 catches vs Central Zone in 1980-81

India B set a target of 275 runs for India A

India B made 321 runs in the first innings as Musheer Khan played an outstanding knock of 181 runs while Navdeep Saini scored 56 runs.

In reply, India A scored 231 runs after India B speedsters Mukesh Kumar and Saini bagged three wickets each.

In India B’s second innings, Sarfaraz Khan (46) and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant (61) helped them to 184 and set a target of 275 runs for India A. Right-arm speedster Akash Deep took an impressive five-wicket haul.

At the time of writing, India A are struggling at 115/6 after 29 overs in the chase. They need 160 runs with just four wickets in hand. KL Rahul (37*) and Kuldeep Yadav (4*) are at the crease.
