Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently played in the ODI series against Australia.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal has made a bold statement about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in ODI cricket, stating that the duo are expected to play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. Ever since both batting legends announced their surprise retirement from test cricket earlier this year, fans have been concerned about whether they will be part of the next ODI World Cup, scheduled to be played in October and November 2027.

Last month, Rohit and Kohli played for Indian Cricket Team in the ODI series against Australia and put rest to many rumours with their performances. Rohit, who finished as the leading run-scorer of the series, winning Player of the Series award, slammed a stunning century in the third ODI in Sydney and helped the Men in Blue to avoid a whitewash.

Kohli, who was dismissed for back-to-back ducks in the first two games, made a stunning comeback with an unbeaten 74 runs in the final match. Kohli and Rohit grabbed the spotlight in the clash, leading the team to victory by nine wickets with their match-winning partnership of unbeaten 168 runs. Following that, Rohit became the No. 1 ranked ODI batter in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings as well.

While speaking to ANI, Arun Dhumal heaped praise on Kohli and Rohit and highlighted their contribution for the Indian Cricket Team. He also added that the duo will continue to be part of the ODIs following their wonderful show in the recent series against Australia, hinting that they will play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have given their life to Indian cricket. When it comes to Team India, they will want to give it their best. And that is the true reflection of a sportsman. And my best wishes to both of them. They have done wonderful. They are not going anywhere, they are here to stay,” he said.

“The way Rohit Sharma has shown his class in this ODI series against Australia, at that age, coming as player of the match in the final match and then player of the series Award, that shows the kind of conviction that he carry, the kind of hard work that he put in, it’s truly remarkable,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit and Kohli will be next seen during the home ODI series against South Africa, which will begin on November 30. India will play three ODIs at home against the Proteas during the campaign, which also comprises two tests and five T20Is.
