Diana Lyndon becomes the first ever Women chair of New Zealand cricket

New Zealand cricket announce Diana Lyndon as the new chairman.
Diana Puketapu-Lyndon will become the first-ever female chair of New Zealand cricket. Martin Snedden announced his resignation on Wednesday. Diana Puketapur-Lyndon will be the first-ever female chairman of New Zealand Cricket. So far, no other full-member ICC cricket board has made a female chair in their governing body, New Zealand Cricket has become the first full-member board to have a female chair.
Diana Lyndon is currently serving as the chair of New Zealand Olympic Committee and was also the chief financial officer on two America’s Cup campaigns. Her appointment came as one of the great milestones in cricket governing bodies. This appointment also suggests that cricket is moving towards gender diversity and inclusivity for women in decision-making. Diana Lyndon’s experience will be useful for New Zealand cricket as well.
Martin Snedden resigns
Earlier, Martin Snedden announced his resignation and his cooperation to allow a smooth power transition in New Zealand cricket. Snedden said, “I’ve taken the decision to step down from the role of board chair, as well as New Zealand Cricket’s representative on the ICC Board." Snedden will be replaced by former New Zealand opener Roger Twose as New Zealand Cricket’s representative in the International Cricket Council (ICC) board.
Martin Snedden added that he took these decisions to give a chance to fresh leadership. Snedden added, “Both these decisions have been taken in the name of ensuring good, sound governance succession planning, as well as taking advantage of what is an excellent opportunity for a leadership refresh.” Martin Snedden is a former New Zealand player with a long family history related to cricket. Snedden has played 25 tests and 93 ODIs for Kiwi team.
New Zealand are currently fighting it out to secure their place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. They started brilliantly and won 4 out of the first 4 games, but later on in the tournament, their campaign got severely derailed when they lost 4 consecutive league games. New Zealand will be taking on Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, November 9. New Zealand needs a win to secure their place in the top four.
