Smriti Mandhana received a video call from RCB icon Virat Kohli after winning WPL 2024.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women’s team captain Smriti Mandhana was on cloud nine after her team defeated Delhi Capitals in the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 to become champions. The final was played on March 17, 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

RCB were asked to bowl first in the final after DC captain Meg Lanning won the toss. Lanning and Shafali Verma added 64 runs for the first wicket. But after that, the RCB spinners rattled the DC batting lineup.

Sophie Molineux took three wickets, while Purple Cap winner Shreyanka Patil took 4/12 and Asha Sobhana took two wickets as well, as DC crumbled to 113 all out in 18.3 overs.

In reply, Smriti Mandhana (31), Sophie Devine (39), and Ellyse Perry (35*) took RCB home with 8 wickets in hand.

Following the match, RCB icon Virat Kohli made a video call to the women’s team and congratulated on winning WPL. This is RCB’s first ever championship title.

During her video conversation with RCB star Virat Kohli, women’s captain Smriti Mandhana revealed that she could hear nothing at all, but that he was obviously thrilled after RCB won the WPL season 2.

He was like just thumbs up and I just did thumbs up: Smriti Mandhana on Virat Kohli’s video call

Via a video call, Kohli participated in the post-match festivities following the game and spoke with Mandhana.

In the post-match press conference, Mandhana revealed that she couldn’t hear a single thing Kohli said to her and she would meet and have a conversation with him in Bangalore.

“I didn’t hear anything he was saying because it was too loud, he was like just thumbs up and I just did thumbs up, I will be meeting him. He looked happy there was a bright smile. I remember him coming last year and a little pep talk which really helped me personally as well as the whole team. He has been a part of this franchise and I think he has been there for the past 15 years so I could see that happiness on his face but because of the noise I couldn’t hear him, maybe I will chat to him when we go to Bengaluru,” Mandhana said in the post-match press conference.

Virat Kohli has joined the RCB camp for the IPL 2024 tournament. This will be his return to cricket after missing the five-match England test series for the birth of his second child.
