Former Sri Lankan captain and veteran opener Dimuth Karunaratne will be retiring from international cricket at the end of the second test of the ongoing two-test home series against Australia.
Sri Lanka lost the first test in Galle by a huge margin of an innings and 242 runs as Usman Khawaja buried the hosts under his double century. Steve Smith and Josh Inglis recorded their respective centuries before the bowlers bundled out Sri Lanka for 165 and 247, with Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann sharing 16 wickets.
The second test will also be played in Galle from February 6th. This will be Karunaratne’s 100th career test match and his last as well. He will become only the 7th Sri Lankan to play 100 test matches.
