Dinesh Karthik becomes third cricketer to play 250 matches in the IPL

Dinesh Karthik made his IPL debut in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils.

Veteran India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has become the third cricketer to play 250 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved the milestone when his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 36th match of the IPL 2024 on April 21, 2024.

The other two cricketers to play 250 matches in the IPL are MS Dhoni (CSK, RPS) and Rohit Sharma (DEC, MI).

Karthik has been in excellent form throughout the ongoing IPL 2024 competition, generating some outstanding finishes for the franchise. He has scored 226 runs in six innings, with an average of 75.33 and a strike rate of 205.45. The right-handed hitter is in contention for a berth in India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2024, and he has been a key contributor to the RCB hitting unit.

Dinesh Karthik, along with Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, is amongst the special players who have played in all IPL editions since the start of the tournament in 2008.

Dinesh Karthik has played 250 matches in IPL with 4742 runs and best score of 97*. He has 142 catches and 36 stumpings behind the wickets.

Karthik has represented six different teams over the tournament’s history. He began the season with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), scoring 1128 runs from 60 matches at a strike rate of 126.03.

Karthik then joined Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) and scored 282 runs at a strike rate of 128.18. Karthik scored 1143 runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders, while also captaining them, with a strike rate of 140.42.

The right-handed hitter has 696 runs to his name for the Gujarat Lions and a strike rate of 132.57. Karthik has the greatest record for the RCB, scoring 837 runs with a strike rate of 163.80.

He, along with Parthiv Patel, Ishant Sharma, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, and Robin Uthappa, is amongst the list of Indian players who have played for the most franchises.
