Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Dinesh Karthik set to retire after IPL 2024

Wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has played for six teams in his 16-year-long IPL career.
Veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik is all set to call time on his glittering Indian Premier League (IPL) career after the upcoming 17th edition, according to reports. Karthik, who has played for India in 26 tests, 94 ODIs and 60 T20is, will also take a call on his international retirement after the cash-rich league.
The 38-year-old cricketer holds a unique record in the IPL, having participated in every season since its inception in 2008. Dinesh Karthik is currently with Royal Challengers Bangalore. The wicket-keeper batter has missed only two games in the last 16 seasons of IPL.
“This 2024 edition will be his (Dinesh Karthik’s) last IPL. He will decide his international retirement after the IPL,” a BCCI source told news agency PTI.
The right-handed batter is the 10th highest run scorer in the IPL’s history. The RCB batter has amassed 4516 runs in 242 matches and is only behind legendary MS Dhoni (250) and Rohit Sharma (243) in terms of most matches played in the prestigious tournament.
Karthik is just behind Dhoni (180) for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in the IPL. The veteran batter has 169 dismissals to his name. During his IPL career, Karthik has represented six teams. He was with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2008 to 2010. He then moved to Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011.
The wicket-keeper batter then represented the Mumbai Indians for two IPL seasons in 2012 and 2013. He was part of the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2014 and 2015 seasons respectively. Karthik joined the now defunct Gujarat Lions outfit for two seasons (2016 and 2017). The keeper then played for the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2021.
In 2022, Karthik had a windfall season as a finisher, scoring 330 runs at 55.00 in 16 matches and being instrumental in RCB’s run to the playoffs. The performance earned him a recall to the Indian side for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Karthik’s last match for India was a T20I against Bangladesh in November 2022 at the Adelaide Oval.
