New Zealand Cricket Team all-rounder Doug Bracewell announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday, December 29. The 35-year-old made the decision due to a persistent rib injury that kept him out of action for the entire domestic season for Central Districts this year.
The right-arm medium pacer played his last match for New Zealand in March 2023 in a test match against Sri Lanka. The biggest highlight of his career was leading New Zealand to their first test victory in Australia in 26 years in December 2011. He clinched nine wickets for 60 runs in the third test in Hobart, which is still New Zealand’s last test victory in Australia.
Since making his international debut in 2011, Bracewell played 28 tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is for the BlackCaps. He clinched 74 wickets in the longest format at an average of 38.82. In the 50-over format, he hunted 26 scalps, averaging 32.50. In T20Is, he picked 20 wickets at an economy of 9.10.
I will always be grateful for the opportunities: Doug Bracewell after retirement

In an official statement released by Central Districts, Bracewell said he was grateful to represent his country in first-class and international matches.
“It’s been a proud part of my life, and something I aspired to as a young cricketer. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had through cricket, and the chance to play for my country, as well as for Central Districts, throughout my domestic career,” he said.
“It’s a privilege to play first-class and international cricket, and I’m grateful to have played and enjoyed the game for as long as I have,” he added.
Apart from international cricket, Bracewell had a fabulous career in first-class cricket. Playing 137 games, he clinched 422 wickets and scored 4505 runs. He achieved the rare feat of scoring more than 4000 runs and clinching over 400 wickets in the domestic circuit.
Moreover, he was also active in franchise T20 leagues, representing Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also played for Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 league.
