South Zone are the defending champions of the tournament. In the 2023-24 edition, they crushed West Zone in the final by 75 runs to lift the title. Both finalists of the last zonal-format tournament will directly play in the semi-finals this season.
Shubman Gill and Tilak Varma are the captains of North Zone and South Zone respectively. However, some reports have claimed that Gill is going to miss the tournament due to illness and vice-captain Ankit Kumar will lead the side.
