Dwayne Bravo is the bowling consultant of the Afghanistan team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
On Saturday in Kingstown, St Vincent, the Afghanistan cricket team enjoyed one of the best days of their cricket history as they beat Australia for the first time in international cricket. This victory came in a must-win game of the Super 8 round for Afghanistan and it threw Group 1 wide open in the race to the semi-finals.
Had Australia won the match, India and Australia would have qualified for the semis while knocking out Afghanistan and Bangladesh. However, now, heading into the last round of matches of Group 1, all four teams are alive.
Rashid Khan’s side defeated the Mitchell Marsh-led unit by 21 runs on a slow pitch at the Arnos Vale Ground. Australia were bowled out for 127 while chasing 149. Among the people to quickly sprint onto the ground the moment Mohammad Nabi took the match-winning catch was Dwayne Bravo, who is in the Afghanistan camp for this tournament.
A two-time T20 World Cup winner and the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, Bravo was roped in by Afghanistan as their bowling consultant for this tournament.

After the victory, the Afghanistan players enjoyed their ride to the hotel, singing and dancing in the team bus. They danced to Bravo’s famous song ‘Champion’ and all the members on the bus performed the trademark step of the song.
Mohammad Nabi posted this video on his social media
After the victory, captain Rashid Khan said, “It’s a massive win for us as a team and as a nation. In the World Cup, beating champions is a great feeling. It’s something we missed in last two years – in 2023 World Cup and also in 2022 in Australia where we lacked some runs.”
